THE FILM

After You, Love Remains (original title: Después de ti, más amor) is a personal portrait of love in its many stages: discovery, wholeness, fracture and rebirth.

What begins as an intimate reflection on a relationship becomes something more expansive: an exploration of how love shapes us, what remains when things fall apart, and whether heartbreak can change the way we see love without taking away our belief in it.

Through a deeply personal lens, Gabi Cerqueiro invites us into a world where the smallest details carry meaning, and where love extends beyond romance into friendship, art, maternal bonds and memory.

BEYOND ROMANTIC LOVE

Although romantic love is at the heart of the film, it isn't the only kind of love present. Friendship, maternal love, art and memory find their way into the story, sometimes subtly, reminding us that love takes many forms and leaves its mark in unexpected places.
The film also holds on to a belief that heartbreak doesn't have to be the end of the story. Things may not turn out as we hoped, but that doesn't mean we have to stop believing in love.

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY

Some stories begin with another person. Others begin with the moment we turn our attention back to ourselves.
For ***Gabi Cerqueiro***, this film began with a relationship that was difficult to move past. The initial idea was to dedicate a film to that experience, but somewhere along the way, the focus shifted. The story became less about the person at the centre of the heartbreak and more about Gabi’s own relationship with love.
That shift opened the door to a more personal project: a portrait of love across its different stages, shaped by experiences, emotions and details that carry individual meaning.
Every element has a purpose, from the characters’ names and props to the lighting and soundtrack. Together, these details build a connected universe that makes the film feel like an intimate piece of its creator.

FROM THE FILMMAKER

Gabi Cerqueiro is a filmmaker based in Spain. With After You, Love Remains, Gabi turns a personal experience into a cinematic reflection on love, creating a world in which the details are as meaningful as the emotions they hold.

Originally developed as a final-year university project on a limited budget, the film grew into an intimate work shaped by personal experience and a desire to share something honest with its audience.
